Laparoscopic surgery means tiny cut in milimeters surgery or key hole surgery or minimal access surgery or minimal invasive surgery. Many people in common understanding call it laser surgery though that is inappropriate term. Open surgery means conventional long cut in centimeters surgery. In contrast to open surgery incision is small, scar is small , hospital stay is less and recovery is fast for Laparoscopic surgery.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy means removal of Gall bladder is commonest Laparoscopic Surgery. It is considered Gold Standard all over the world. It is the common example of Laparoscopic Surgery showing advantages of Laparoscopic Surgery.
Apart from Cholecystectomy, Appendicectomy, Colectomy and Hernia are common operations that can be done with laparoscopy. Laparoscopic surgery is even done complex pancreatic, hepatic and bile duct , oesophagus, stomamch and spleen operation.

Gall bladder stone is a common problem all over world. All the persons with Gall bladder stones do not require immediate operation. They can be incidental finding on Sonography without causing symptoms i.e asymptomatic. And in others they cause symptoms like pain in abdomen particularly Right upper quadrant or upper middle abdomen, jaundice, or problem in digestion especially of oily foods. As complications like acute cholecystitis (Swelling and inflammation of GB), jaundice (cholangitis) , recurrent pain in abdomen, acute pancreatitis because of passage of stone, or infection of GB (empyema) or perforation of GB can occur. Number & size of stones do not decide surgery: health profile, associated diseases, symptoms and complications do decided surgery. Asymptomatic patients can be observed without surgery for long time. Surgery is performed is laparoscopic cholecystectomy i.e. complete removal of GB through key hole surgery. only 5-10% persons will require open i.e. conventional long cut surgery.

Gastroscopy is an endoscopic examination of stomach and oesophagus. A telescope is inserted under local anaeshtesia from mouth.
Colonoscopy is an endoscopic examination of large intestines. A telescope is inserted from anus under anaeshtesia. A laxative solution is given a day prior to cleanse colon for visualization.
ERCP is an endoscopic examination of bile duct and pancreatic duct. Its highly skilled procedure used for diagnosis and treatment of Bile duct stones, Stricture of bile duct, complications of Gall bladder surgery and cancer.
